What should I do if Topic didn't import my post correctly?

When you create a content brief for an existing post and include your post's URL, Topic will pull your post content into the Content Grader feature. You can also use the "Import by URL" feature in the Content Grader to import a post.

Why was only part of my post imported?

Topic attempts to remove the navigation, footer, ads, comments, and any other parts of the page that are not part of the actual content.

Because every page is structured differently, the system occasionally does not import everything that it should, and it may pull in too much or too little content. For example, if you have a food blog, the contents of your recipe card may not be pulled in correctly.

We are working on improving the algorithm and the interface so that we're able to more reliably import content, but in the meantime there are a few workarounds to get the job done:

Workaround 1: WordPress plugin

If you use WordPress, using the Topic Wordpress plugin can be an easy way to grade existing content without having to copy and paste across different tools. Learn more here: How to use Topic in WordPress and Google Docs.

Important note about the WordPress plugin: There's a known bug where content from recipe card plugins and other non-standard blocks are not being considered for the grade or word count. We are actively working on this issue and hope to resolve it in the coming weeks. (added Oct 4, 2021)

Workaround 2: Copy and paste

Another workaround is to manually copy and paste the content into the Content Grader.

Workaround 3: Import Full Page

The first is using the checkbox marked "Import Full Page":

If you check this box before importing content, Topic will import the entire text of the page, including any navigation, footer widgets, ads, etc. You will need to remove any extraneous content yourself, however, all of the content should be imported.
