How AdThrive Works

How do you place the ads on my site? Do I control where the ads go?

When you partner with AdThrive, you receive a custom-designed ad layout that's uniquely optimized for your site design. Your ad preferences, site structure, viewability (information on how well different ad placements are seen by readers), and traffic all come into play when choosing the best ad placements for your site.

We’ll give our recommendations based on what has proven to be successful, but you get the final say on how your ads are placed. Note: our ad partners require a minimum of three highly-viewable ads running on all device types.

Then, we keep a close eye on how your ads are performing so we can make sure you are always earning at your top potential! If you decide you’d like to run more ads, fewer ads, or make changes to your ad layout, you can easily make those requests via your dashboard or by submitting a support ticket.

The ads are added to your site through a simple snippet of JavaScript. Our go-to method is with the AdThrive Ads WordPress plugin, but if you aren’t using WordPress, we can add this snippet to the head of your site manually, or provide it to you/your team to install.

Once the AdThrive ad code is running on your site, our team can easily control the exact placement of ads using HTML and CSS selectors. We never need to manually place the ads on your site! It’s all controlled on our end to make it extra easy for you.

Does AdThrive run invasive ads, like pesky pop-ups?

We take the utmost care to ensure the ads we install on your site provide a good user experience, so we do not run any pop-up ad types. As a Google Certified Publishing Partner, our ad optimization, policies, financials, business practices and ad layouts are Google-approved and thoroughly vetted!

We partner with the top ad monitoring service in the industry to detect any bad ads that sneak through our filters, like ads that redirect to undesirable websites. Every ad impression is scanned in real time and checked against a known database of malicious ad domains.

If a bad ad attempts to serve, the system identifies it as a bad ad and actively blocks that ad moving forward. This cutting-edge technology is the best available!

On top of this automatic blocking technology, we constantly manually check the bidders and networks we work with to make sure they are maintaining the ad quality standards we set for them.

Are you able to block ads or brands?

We have the most conservative filters set up by default for our ads because keeping your site family-friendly is a high priority for us. If an ad ever slips through our filters that isn’t family-friendly, we appreciate you letting us know and we’ll work quickly to block it across all AdThrive sites!

We are also able to submit specific blocks for sites/brands you'd rather not have on your site, specifically. Not all advertisers provide ad blocking capabilities on a site-specific basis, but we’ll submit blocks wherever we can!

Read more about ad blocking here.

How do you monetize my video content?

Your original video content provides you with one of the biggest revenue opportunities in digital advertising!

When you run AdThrive video players, we provide super fast (and free) video hosting that plays ads before and during your video content. You’ll earn significantly more than you would by running ads on embedded YouTube video players.

Check out our easy quick-start guide right here.

What does AdThrive mean by RPM — is it based on sessions or pageviews?

At AdThrive, RPM always means ad earnings for every 1,000 pageviews, as measured by Google Analytics.

Some ad providers base their RPM calculations on sessions. If you’re used to tracking this number, you can also find that in your publisher dashboard as “RPS”.

Some ad providers use pageviews calculated by another method. Google Analytics is the industry standard for measuring pageviews, so for the most accurate and consistent method of calculation RPM, we use the following equation:

Total ad earnings for a specific period of time ÷ Google Analytics pageviews for that same period of time × 1,000

Why should I assign my traffic to AdThrive in Comscore?

Comscore is a company that tracks how people use the internet. Advertisers use Comscore rankings to figure out which avenues they want to focus on to reach their goals.

A Traffic Assignment Letter (TAL) tells Comscore to include your traffic in the AdThrive group of publishers. This makes your site more visible to advertisers and helps our sales team secure the best deals for everyone in the AdThrive community!
